Carleton University and Algonquin College Reach Out to High School Students with Learning Disabilities

Carleton University and Algonquin College are hosting “Make the CUT” (College University Transition). This unique program is designed for Grade 12 students with learning disabilities or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who are planning to attend university or college in the next year. It is a joint initiative of Carleton University’s Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities and Algonquin College’s Centre for Accessible Learning.  This one-day event will focus on preparation and self-advocacy, educational assistive technology and learning strategies, with workshops highlighting the first-year experience.   Current staff and students will be leading these workshops.

When: Wednesday, November 14, 2018, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Best time for photos and interview opportunities:   8:45 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. or 12 noon to 1:00 p.m.

Where: Fenn Lounge, Residence Commons Building, Carleton University

Notable: Speaker – 9:20 a.m. Dave Smart, head coach, Carleton University Ravens Men’s Basketball Team 

Background:
The first Make the CUT session (November 2005) attracted more than 250 students, making it the largest gathering of students with learning disabilities in Canada.  This 2018 session of Make the CUT continues to represent the largest gathering of students with learning disabilities in Canada.  Over 7,500 students and educators have enjoyed a Make the CUT experience.
