Carleton University Offers New Bursaries for International PhD Students
Beginning September 1, 2018 Carleton University’s international PhD students will be eligible to receive the newly created International Doctoral Tuition Bursary to offset the difference to domestic tuition rates. The benefit will be in effect up to the fifth year of the PhD program.
“We are taking this important step to attract and retain the very best international doctoral students at Carleton,” says Benoit-Antoine Bacon, President and Vice-Chancellor. “These scholars are major contributors to our academic mission and we are pleased to be able to offer this additional financial support.”
“This is excellent news for our international PhD students,” says Matthias Neufang, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs. “Removing financial barriers allows them to concentrate more fully on their studies and the cutting-edge research they conduct.”
Carleton has more than 190 international PhD students coming from over 40 countries. “Carleton’s international doctoral students have a tremendously positive impact in Canada,” says Jerry Tomberlin, Interim Provost and Vice-President (Academic) at Carleton. “Through their active engagement in the University’s research enterprise, they have made many breakthroughs with significant benefits for society. They also bring a global perspective to the classroom and their peers.”
Carleton University attracts outstanding graduate students from around the world. “We are confident that this new initiative will further enhance Carleton’s competitiveness on the global stage,” says President Bacon.
