Carleton University Ratifies Three-Year Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 2424

April 3, 2018

At a special meeting, the Executive Committee of Carleton University’s Board of Governors unanimously ratified a renewed collective agreement with CUPE Local 2424, reached with the assistance of an external mediator on Monday, April 2.

The approval follows ratification of the agreement by union members.

Our employees have been missed over the last four weeks. We look forward to them returning to work on Wednesday, April 4, so we can continue to support our students through their studies, together.

The new agreement is a balanced, fair and reasonable settlement that protects the pension plan and its governance and keeps the plan financially sustainable. It also includes salary increases over three years, enhancements to benefits and improvements in contract language for CUPE 2424 members.

The university is pleased the settlement recognizes the Pension Plan Committee’s role in governing and securing the pension because this benefits all of our employees. New language in the contract guarantees the university’s commitment to a Defined Benefit plan and CUPE’s continued position on the Pension Plan Committee. It also guarantees that union representatives will continue to comprise 50 per cent of the Pension Plan Committee.

The university recognizes the hard work and contributions of both negotiating teams, and the help of the mediator, in coming to this new contract that respects the needs of both parties.
