Carleton’s Gregory Brown Featured in CBC True Crime Series Premiere
Carleton University’s Gregory Brown will be featured in the Sept. 20, 2018 premiere of CBC’s true crime series The Detectives. The doctoral researcher and instructor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology worked in policing for 28 years and is a veteran of the Ottawa Police force. He has been involved in undercover narcotic cases and, later, homicide investigations as a detective sergeant.
Now in its second season, The Detectives is an hour-long program that features interviews with real-life investigators paired with dramatized re-enactments of criminal cases. The eight-part series profiles events that have impacted Canadian life and law enforcement, according to the program’s website.
Brown will be featured in the season premiere episode examining the murder investigation of Jennifer Teague, where he will discuss his experiences on the case. Actor Currie Graham portrays him in the program’s re-enactments.
Brown joined Carleton as a master’s student and began his PhD in 2013. He has expertise in policing, surveillance and police use of force. He was a Fulbright Visiting Researcher at the University at Albany’s School of Criminal Justice from 2016 to 2017. Upon graduation, Brown will become a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Osgoode Hall Law School (York University) for two years.
The series premiere airs Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 at 9 p.m. on CBC.
