CUPE 2424 Bargaining Update No. 14 – Legal Picketing Continuing, Picketing Protocol Remains in Place

The University and the Union met for 14 hours on Sunday, March 18 with the assistance of a mediator. However, they were unable to reach an agreement at this time.

The CUPE 2424 legal strike action is continuing.  The university campus is open and regularly scheduled classes will continue as usual.  Student service and support offices on campus remain open and operational to provide support to students during this time. Information regarding reduced hours of operation and service levels is available at: students.carleton.ca/negotiations/service-information.

Members of the university community are reminded to exercise caution and patience when crossing the picket lines.

During a legal strike, the striking union has the right to establish a picket line at the vehicle entrances to campus.

Picketers are not permitted to:

Students have the legal right to cross a picket line and to come to campus, attend classes and use all available university services during a strike.

Anyone crossing the picket line is legally obligated to do so in a manner that does not endanger the life or safety of any person. Some suggestions:

All drivers, pedestrians and cyclists are asked to exercise caution and patience when approaching and exiting a picket line.
