Mayor’s Cyber Challenge Cup Announces Winning Teams

CGI, Bank of Canada, Bell Canada, Security Compass and the House of Commons are pleased to announce the results of the third annual CyberSCI Mayor’s Cyber Challenge Cup, a cybersecurity competition for students held on Nov. 17, 2018 at Carleton University.

Thirty-four students selected from Carleton University, University of Ottawa, Algonquin College and La Cité collegiale competed in teams to attack a vulnerable computer network, break through the cyber defences, take control of the systems and advise a fictitious company on how to defend against the cyberattack.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson kicked off the Mayor’s Cyber Challenge Cup.  Top performers had the opportunity to interview for fully paid internships with sponsoring companies: Bank of Canada, Bell Canada and CGI.  Additional prizes were made possible by a sponsorship from the House of Commons.

The Canadian Cyber Security Challenge was founded in 2011 by Tom Levasseur, senior security consultant with the Bank of Canada, to address the shortage of skilled resources in Canada’s IT security workforce.
