Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre Celebrates Return of the 5,200-Pipe Organ

September 16, 2019

Carleton University will celebrate the restoration of its 5,200-pipe Casavant organ – the centerpiece of its new performing arts space at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre – with an afternoon of storytelling, music and community.

Featuring a lecture by esteemed organist Frances Macdonnell, a one-hour concert with accomplished organists Thomas Annand, Ian Bevell, James Calkin and Jennifer Loveless, plus an opportunity to tour the centre – the event showcases local talent and the cultural history of the heritage building.

When: Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019 from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Where: Main Hall, Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre, 355 Cooper St., Ottawa
Info: This event is free and open to the public. Registration is available online.

Media are invited to attend the event.

Through its acquisition of Dominion-Chalmers, Carleton is proud to continue the congregation’s rich history of promoting music and education in this beautiful venue and community hub in the heart of the city.

The remarkable organ is one of only a few of its kind in Canada.

This event, co-organized by the Carleton University Alumni Association in affiliation with the Royal Canadian College of Organists, will also mark the establishment of the Friends of the Pipe Organ Fund.
