Carleton to Host Conference on the International Transition to Sustainability

June 18, 2019

Carleton University will host International Sustainability Transitions Conference 2019 – a gathering of international transition experts dedicated to accelerating the development of a sustainable future. Through a series of expert presentations and discussions, this collaborative conference will encourage researchers to envision improved mobility, agricultural systems and construction, as well as urban and rural development to foster sustainable change. The politics and policy of the response to climate change will  be a key theme of discussion.

This year’s conference is the 10th anniversary of the event and is the first gathering held outside Europe.

When: Monday, June 24 to Wednesday, June 26, 2019
Where: Various locations, Richcraft Hall, Carleton University
Info: A conference program, including session times and room locations, can be found online. A campus map is available.

Media are invited to attend the event.

Throughout the decades, damage inflicted on the world’s ecosystems through unsustainable development practices has become more apparent. While progress has been made towards a sustainable development transition through new technologies and practices, roadblocks to transformative change remain and the environment continues to be threatened.

This conference will address these challenges by supporting research into obstacles to the processes and strategies of this transition.

The event will help map out the path to a sustainable future while navigating the expected conflicts of societal change. The conference will highlight achievements in the field of international transition studies, allow sharing of perspectives and engage researchers new to the international community.

The conference is sponsored by Carleton’s Faculty of Public Affairs, the Ivey Foundation and the Sustainability Transitions Research Network.
