Carleton to Host Launch of Healthy End of Life Project Ottawa
Carleton University will host the launch of the Healthy End of Life Project (HELP) Ottawa – an innovative, inter-professional, cross-institutional research initiative led by Prof. Pamela Grassau at the School of Social Work.
The groundbreaking initiative is designed to support people with advanced age, frailty, chronic and/or life-limiting illness to live at home or in the community as long as possible.
The project is sponsored by Compassionate Ottawa and funded by Mach-Gaensslen Foundation.
When: Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019 at 10 a.m.
Where: Atrium, Second Floor, Richcraft Hall, Carleton University
Info: Registration is due by Jan. 31 and can be found online. A campus map is available online.
Media are invited to attend the event, which will include speakers, a signing ceremony and a panel discussion with people closely involved with issues related to end of life care.
With Canada’s health-care system overburdened and family support networks fraying, HELP Ottawa will pilot an approach to work in four local community sites to develop, implement and evaluate programs to support people living at home or in the community.
The approach is modelled on a successful Australian HELP program developed at Melbourne’s La Trobe University, which is being implemented across Australia, New Zealand and parts of Europe. Following this Ottawa pilot, it could spread across Canada as well.
