The holiday season is upon us and Carleton experts are available to discuss related topics.

Crook’s research interests include Christian origins, historical Jesus, social-scientific interpretation of early Christian writings and representations of Jesus in modern fiction. He available to talk about the New Testament narratives relating to the birth of Jesus, the historical origins of Christmas and Christmas controversies in Christianity.

Jim Davies
Professor, Cognitive Science

Davies is available to discuss New Year’s Resolutions and the science of willpower, as well as the science of believing in Santa Claus.

As director of the Science of Imagination Laboratory, Davies explores computational modelling and artificial intelligence applied to human visual imagination. His work has shown how people use visual thinking to solve problems and how they visualize imagined situations and worlds. He is a frequent contributor to Nautilus magazine and is author of Riveted: The Science of How Jokes Make Us Laugh, Movies Make Us Cry, and Religion Makes Us Feel One with the Universe. He is co-host of the award-winning Minding the Brain podcast.

Kim Stratton
Professor, Religion

Stratton is available to speak about Hanukkah and Christmas from a historical and religious perspective. Her research covers the fields of early Christianity, Rabbinic Judaism, as well as Greco-Roman culture and religion. She is also interested in religion and violence, social identity in antiquity; ancient magic and gender.
