Carleton Hosts the ACE EDI Event Series – The Social Context of STEM Education

Carleton University’s Faculty of Science has launched a series of events that aims to increase awareness, collaboration and engagement (ACE), and advance equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) efforts within the faculty. The third event in the ACE EDI series will feature guest speaker Bryan Dewsbury. He will discuss the social factors that impact the ability of students to be their best selves in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) classrooms. He will also talk about the strategies for mitigating these contingencies and the impacts of those strategies on student performance.

About the Speaker

Dewsbury is an associate professor of Biology at the University of Rhode Island. He is the principal investigator of the Science Education and Society (SEAS) research program where, as a team, they blend research on the social context of teaching and learning, faculty development of inclusive practices and programming in the cultivation of equity in education. He is also a Fellow with the John N. Gardner Institute where he assists institutions of higher education to cultivate best practices in inclusive education.
