Carleton School of Social Work Hosts 'Black History is Every Month' Event
Carleton University’s School of Social Work organized a virtual experience on March 6 called “Black History is Every Month” to foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation through critical discussions, storytelling and performances.
Since the online presentation first aired, more than 800 people have watched the event on YouTube: Black History is Every Month Documentary 2021
The event highlighted African diasporic accomplishments and culture, and drew attention to the challenges, strengths and resilience of Black communities in Canada.
“Every year during the month of February, Black history is celebrated widely,” noted Allison Everett, the video’s creative producer and the MSW practicum co-ordinator in the School of Social Work.
“However, the continued learning, appreciation and celebration of Black history should not be limited to one month of the year . . . This event is an opportunity to reflect on how we will continue to celebrate Black history throughout the year.”
