Carleton University’s Giving Tuesday Raised a Record $1.2 Million

Carleton University’s Giving Tuesday brought in $1.2 million to fund a wide range of campus projects displayed on FutureFunder that are designed to support students and encourage efforts to solve real-world problems.
“The FutureFunder platform was created as a way for our community to connect with the change Carleton students and researchers can make in the world,” said Jenna Hobin, engagement strategy adviser in the Department of University Advancement.
“We are proud of the variety of projects represented. This year, there were 62 active projects. These initiatives supported causes ranging from student mental health and accessibility to varsity athletics and experiential learning.”

Giving Tuesday has become a global day of giving that follows Thanksgiving in the United States and the consumerist Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping days. Started in 2012, the movement encourages giving as a means of making a positive and powerful impact on local communities.
Donors to Carleton campaigns gave a whopping $600,000 this year, which will be matched by the university for a grand total of $1.2 million.
“We were overwhelmed by the tremendous support on Giving Tuesday, so much so that we surpassed our goal,” said Hobin. “It is inspirational to see both the passion of our supporters and the dedication of the project champions behind these amazing initiatives that are making a difference in the world.
“The development of these projects can be transformative in the lives of students, and provides a unique learning opportunity for our next generation of leaders.”
