Edited by Dr. Susan D. Phillips (Graduate Supervisor of the MPNL program) and Bob Wyatt (Executive Director of the Muttart Foundation), “Intersections and Innovations: Change in Canada’s Voluntary and Nonprofit Sector” is a book published by the Muttart Foundation in 2021. It’s Canada’s first, comprehensive look at our country’s sector.

In October, 2021, the authors spoke with Liz Weaver (Co-CEO of the Tamarack Institute) about the unique history of Canada’s charitable sector and how this history shapes the sector now. They also discussed some of the topics in the book, including challenges that organizations and the sector will face in a post-pandemic world.

Featuring 36 chapters by 52 academics and sector leaders, the e-book is freely available at muttart.org/resource. You can access individual chapters, or the full, 680-page e-book, all of it published under a Creative Commons licence, which allows free, non-commercial use.

Read the interview from “The Philanthropist” — about the catalyst for the book, the intended audiences, key themes, and contributions of the book to our sector.

Read a review of the book: “Straight to the pool room for this book!”

“This is an amazing new resource for those studying or interested in Canada’s voluntary sector,” Dr. Susan Phillips says. “The authors have explored topics ranging from fundraising to governance, the sector’s history to its work in effecting public policy.”
