This year, Calum Carmichael consulted thought leaders in the US nonprofit sector (in addition to a series about Europe) and discovered that many American experts have concerns about tax loopholes and incentives related to charitable donations. In Susan Phillips informal survey of 68 sector leaders in Canada, she found that 40% of respondents here wanted Canada to modernize the regulatory framework for charities, including an overhaul of the Income Tax Act. Carmichael heard similar perspectives about the US, as you’ll read below from four of our American colleagues.
