What is Planned Giving?

Planned giving is the process of thoughtfully designing your charitable donations ahead of time. This approach enables you to meet your philanthropic goals while maximizing potential tax benefits and other financial advantages. Planned gifts often involve deferred contributions, such as those made through a will, life insurance policies, or beneficiary designations.

Arranging an estate gift or a gift by will is easy to do. At Carleton University, the Planned Giving team will work with you and your professional advisors to help you choose the best gift plan so that your philanthropic goals are realized, and your gift has the intended impact.

These contributions, commonly called “legacy gifts,” are among the most meaningful charitable donations an individual can make. A legacy gift in your will ensures that future students benefit from academic programs, financial aid, and innovative research opportunities. Legacy donors to Carleton are deeply committed to the power of giving back and the transformative value of education.
