Bio sketch: To join the community of malariologist I began with a first degree in Biology Education, then a Master’s degree in Applied Entomology and Parasitology. Building on my master’s degree, I bagged a Ph.D. in Medical Entomology and Parasitology. In September 2023, I won the Pan-African Mosquito Control Association (PAMCA)-Women in Vector Control Excellence Award, Senior career runner up category (2023) evidence of my contribution to fight against malaria in Africa.

Research Interests:

My research interest spreads across public health entomology and parasitology with a focus on interventions through contextual health education.

  • Developing multisectoral impact pathways leading to behaviour and social changes in the community.
  • Tackling evolving threats against disease control strategies,
  • Addressing malaria priorities (control uptake, herbal remedies, drug discovery).

Expectations as a QES Scholar during the Mobility Period

Short –term

  • To get acquainted with industry best practices for social/ behavioral science research and report writing.
  • To get technical know-how on developing contextual health education curriculum across different age groups and distinct audience in terms of engaging the community as a classroom.
  • To redefine my skills in drawing up budgets and judiciously manage limited resources.

Long term

  •  Acquire competence in designing an effective program to tackle complex issues requiring multilevel intervention strategies and multiple stakeholder engagement and commitment
  • To become a consultant in providing technical know-how on developing programs in streams that will unpack and define the diverse needs (felt/ perceived) of a target sub population group, as well as measure impact.

The QES Project and Advancement of your Career

The opportunity will enhance my research capacity beyond the set boundaries of my distinct subject area. I am a medical entomologist and parasitologist with a background in education, now delving into perhaps social/ behavioral sciences, health education and community engagement; beyond insects and parasites.

This exposure will provide the needed skills for this new research path and the envisaged collective multi-sectoral action, as well as aid my desire to apply science knowledge to human beings across different ages. This leveraging on the interconnectedness of subject disciplines requires expert input through the life cycle of projects.

This exposure will further increase the quality of scholarship I have to offer my students in terms of training and complementary skills (robust mentoring, career guidance) essential for academic and career progression.
