Mr Ramadhani Bakari is a PhD candidate at Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology specializing in sustainable renewable energy Engineering. His research interest is on renewable energies whereas he focused on solar thermal drying during his MSc and currently focused on waste to energy conversion by gasification.
Research Interests and societal interests
- Examining the potential of rice husks which are abundantly available and unutilized in Tanzania
- Understanding the impact of climate change on environment and how renewable energies can effectively be adopted as a mitigation approach
- Community integration initiative in the rural areas growing rice to enhance decentralized power generation centres
Expectations as a QES Scholar during the Mobility Period
The incubation period in Canada will be a great opportunity for polishing my research proposal while continuing with experiments. I expect to be mentored in the area of data collection and analysis, specifically by employing the state-of-the-art laboratories. I expect to get an opportunity to interact with fellow scholars and mentors in the area of renewable energies so as to get more research networks. I also expect to broaden my understanding of the linkages between renewable energy and climatic change, so as to be able to address the challenges and opportunities in this field by integrating interdisciplinary sectors.
The QES Project and Advancement of your Career
My long-term goal is to contribute to the renewable energy sector in Tanzania and elsewhere around the world through research. The world is now alerted on the consequences of climate change due to intensive utilization of fossils fuels. Therefore, the QES programme will offer a platform to gain an in-depth understanding of climate change and their related consequences and mitigation approach. At the end of the programme, I will be able to educate, to practice and integrate well my research interest in climate change.
