We are a group of students currently enrolled in LAWS 4902, Academia and Activism. The course works in collaboration with Scholars at Risk (SAR), a non-profit organization to support their Scholars in Prison Project. Throughout this seminar, we learn about the intersections of truth and fact and complicate the role of activism within academia to organize effective advocacy campaigns.

As a class, we are promoting academic freedom while advocating for the release of imprisoned scholars in various countries; specifically, Belarus, China, India and Iran. Our team is advocating for Marfa Rabkova, a Belarusian student who has been arbitrarily sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment for exercising her basic human rights.

Through this, we have established the #ReleaseRabkova campaign to call upon the Government of Canada to advocate for the release and pardon of all charges against Marfa Rabkova.
