I came to Carleton University from Edmonton, Alberta, after completing an undergraduate degree in honours political science at MacEwan University. I got interested in public policy in the last couple years of my degree, nurtured by a professor who specialized in the field and supervised my honours thesis. I’m passionate about social policy primarily, and I’m trying to develop my other policy research interests here. I value human rights and economic justice, which have influenced the paths I’ve taken in my academic journey. When I’m not doing course work, I like to play the guitar, go to museums, read books and graphic novels and go exploring the city.
My journey to the SPPA at Carleton University was somewhat interesting. I had not initially planned to apply to schools outside of Alberta or Western Canada, but on the advice of my former professor and Carleton alumnus I chose to apply to the MPPA program. I accepted the offer from Carleton University because of the opportunity to study in the country’s oldest and most respected public policy grad school, the university’s central location with close proximity to the federal government, and the generous funding I was offered.
I can tell anyone who’s planning to come here that the SPPA student society is very organized and will help new students feel at home quickly with all the social events it puts on.
