SPPA welcomes Elisabeth Gilmore, an associate professor in environmental engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carleton University, who has started a cross-appointed faculty position in the School.
“We are delighted to have Prof. Gilmore cross-appointed to SPPA,” says School director Jennifer Stewart. “Her expertise in climate change and policy is a natural fit with SPPA’s interests and she will be an excellent support for students interested in the area.”
Through SPPA, Gilmore looks to work with faculty members and students who are interested in science, technology and policy questions.
Gilmore has substantial research interests at the interface of science and policy on environmental issues from local to global scales. Her current work focuses on climate change and economic and sociopolitical interactions, including development, mobility, armed conflict and climate action, as well as gendered risks and knowledge. She also works on how to incorporate human and policy dynamics into integrated assessment models and scenarios for understanding energy and societal transformations.
Her professional work experience informs her research activities. She is a lead author on the 6th Assessment Cycle of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, is a senior scientific advisor in the Science and Technology Branch at Environment and Climate Change Canada and held an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
