Abstract
Since the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attacks, there has been significant debate about understanding the background of the violence. This article explores the necessity of contextualizing the events, emphasizing that understanding is not equivalent to justifying terrorism. Drawing on the insights of Ian S. Lustick and historical parallels with post-9/11 reactions, the piece argues that ignoring the broader context can lead to catastrophic consequences. The analysis includes the current rhetoric and actions of Israeli leaders and the potential long-term effects on Israel’s security and international standing. This discussion aims to highlight the importance of considering historical context to prevent further escalation and suffering.
