Dear Members of the Carleton Community,

As the summer draws to a close, I hope everyone was able to enjoy some well-deserved holidays as we prepare to welcome our students back to campus. The start of a new academic year is full of excitement and renewed energy, but it can also be overwhelming and stressful. It’s important that we continue to show patience and compassion with each other and ourselves throughout the year.

In preparation for the year, the Students and Enrolment team has spent the summer supporting admissions, registration and course scheduling, preparing programs and services for the year, and improving our overall support offerings. We continue to collaborate with faculty, staff and community partners to provide comprehensive support for our students as they navigate their way through university life. As such, we also continue to update our resources to provide you with the tools to help support our students:

Student Referral Guide

The Student Referral Guide has been updated for 2023-2024 and has been sent by interoffice mail. This guide has been designed to help members of the Carleton community learn about the wide range of services and programs aimed at helping students throughout their time at Carleton and to quickly refer students to the appropriate office. If you did not receive a copy, or you want to request additional copies, please visit our Student Support website.

Ask Me Campaign

We are once again running the Ask Me campaign this fall. I hope you will join me in wearing your red Ask Me button as our students return to campus to help make all students feel part of this caring community. You can learn more about the campaign, including important tips for students, and request a button on our Ask Me website.

Resources for Supporting Our Students

We continue to maintain our other resources to assist you in supporting students throughout their time at Carleton. You can view these resources digitally or request print copies through our Student Support website. To continue learning and developing your skills as a student service professional, consider completing the Student Support Certificate which consolidates the many workshops available to you into a certificate.

Carleton Mobile

We have fully launched the new Carleton Mobile app, Carleton’s official app for current students. Students can use Carleton Mobile to view their class schedule, search support services, access grades and stay up-to-date with student news and events. We will continue to add new features to the app throughout the year. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to download Carleton Mobile in order to receive messages from the Emergency Notification System (ENS). Visit the Carleton Mobile website to learn more about the app and to download.

Care Reports

If you are concerned about a student and are unsure of the best resource or support, you are encouraged to submit a Care Report. This will alert the Care and Support team who will reach out as required and will provide the appropriate support and guidance to the student.

For a complete overview of our student support services, I encourage you to visit the faculty and staff section of our Current Students website. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact my office at vpstudents@carleton.ca and we will be happy to assist you.

I hope you enjoy the last week of summer and wish you all the best for the upcoming academic year.

Sincerely yours,

Suzanne Blanchard
