On this World Environment Day, we bring to light the importance of environmental justice. In order to have a sustainable future for all, we need solidarity and unity for an environmental movement rooted in social justice. Environmental justice is the intersection of human rights, the environment, and the equitable access to resources for all people to survive.

This week, Carleton has released a statement on the recent racial violence in the U.S and Canada, which can be found here.

Carleton University has recently released Kinàmàgawin (“learning together”), a revitalized long-term Indigenous strategy with 41 Calls to Action to guide reconciliation, Indigenous learning efforts and positive long-term change. One of the Calls to Action highlights that Carleton University has the capacity to incorporate environmental sustainability as a fundamental institutional value to guide its current operations and future development.

To push for environmental justice, we encourage all of our community to educate yourself, identify how you can make a difference, and to be the example of the kind of world we want to live in.
