Project assignment notification

The department will assign a project to you, based on your preferences. The assignment will take into account the group size and possibly the decision of the project supervisor. You will be notified of the project assigned to you before registration.

July to early September

Courses registration

At the time you register for your courses for the Fall term, you will have been assigned the section of SYSC 4907 associated to your project supervisor. You only need to add the other courses you wish to take.

SYSC 4907 has a designated meeting time; it is added to make sure that all students of your project group are available at that time so that you can all meet and work on the project.

Project proposal

The purpose of the proposal is to introduce the project that you will construct over the course of the next year. The proposal should be written in such a way that it can be understood by a person not familiar with the project [].

Progress report

A progress report must be submitted to your supervisor and online.  The report must make reference to your proposal, show clearly how much progress has been made, make a prediction as to how the rest of the project is likely to develop, and state any variation from the project proposal that now seems necessary.

Oral presentation

The oral presentation is a visual performance that requires different skills and attitudes. Your oral presentation will be graded by your supervisor and a second reader[].

Poster fair

A poster fair is like a science fair. You will set up a poster display as well as a demonstration beforehand to exhibit the final product of your project. During the fair, you will remain at your display and visitors will be invited to wander about, asking you questions whenever interested. It’s a chance for you to talk about your work. []

The final report represents the culmination of your year of work. It is the major component of your final grade. You will want to devote much time and effort throughout the year towards the report. The report will be read by your supervisor(s) and by a second reader. [].

The evaluation of projects differs from most other courses.  The final grade for each project is assigned by the department, not just by your supervisor.  The final grade will reflect your performance both technically and professionally, throughout the whole year [].
