Barbara Wells Award
The Barbara Wells Award was created to recognize and pay tribute to an outstanding volunteer who has made a significant contribution to the annual Carleton University United Way/Centraide Campaign through his or her dedication, and commitment of time and talent.
The Barbara Wells Award is named in honour of Barbara Wells, who for more than 20 years dedicated countless volunteer hours to support Carleton’s United Way/Centraide workplace campaign.
About Barbara Wells
Barbara started working at Carleton University in June 1967 and retired in June 2014, having worked at the university for 47 years!
Barbara took on the responsibility of the United Way Coordinator in 1987 and continued in that function until 2004, a total of 17 years. As the Chair of Carleton’s campaign changed annually, she was able to provide continued corporate knowledge of the infrastructure of the Campaign as it evolved year by year.
Carleton was an important part of Barbara’s life and was her second home. Barbara Wells passed away in the spring of 2019, and a strawberry social celebration of her life was held at Carleton University to celebrate Barbara’s life, spirit, generosity and love for her family, friends and colleagues.
