The Weck Group at the University of Ottawa have developed a laser machining method where plasmonic metals (like Ag and Au) can be coloured by producing plasmon-supporting nanostructures. The lifetimes of these structures can be quite short, and so we are working in collaboration with this group to pin the structures using ALD overcoating. This can extend the colour duration from days to years.
