June 2023 was a busy month! Dr. Basu attended and spoke at Dr. Peter Huck’s 30 Year Celebration of his NSERC Industrial Partnership Research Chair in Drinking Water Treatment. It was a great event with people from across the years attending celebration. Dr. Basu comment on how wonderful it was to reconnect with colleagues and friends at the event. Not to mention that Dr. Basu and Dr. Sarah Dorner took home the winning place for a fun Water Trivia Contest! Dr. Basu completed her PHD at the University of Waterloo under Dr. Huck’s supervision where she specialized in Biofiltration and Low Pressure Membrane processes.
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) held its annual conference in Toronto this year; which afforded the entire research group the wonderful opportunity to attend the talks and get an excellent glimpse in the breadth of the water industry across North America. Two research group members also presented on their work! Niloufar Marnani presented on challenges and techniques of measuring the surface area of graphene based materials where she discussed the advantages/disadvantages of three techniques to complete the measurements. Daanish Singh presented on the novel application of surfactants to help chemically clean ceramic membranes using either Chemically Enhanced Backwash (CEB) or Clean-In-Place (CIP) procedures.
