The School is pleased to announce Dr. Rinaldo Walcott from the University of Toronto as our Guest Speaker for the 2021 Vickers-Verduyn Annual Lecture in Canadian Studies.
Entitled The Caribbean Sea in Canada: Notes on Tributaries, his virtual lecture will make the case that blackness in Canada is not simply denied because of racism, but rather that Canada, as a geopolitical entity, does not exist outside of the terrible history of the Caribbean Sea. His research draws on impressions of the historical to offer a different way to think about the long history of, and the current manifestations of, anti-black racism in Canada.
