Laura Madokoro

Laura Madokoro is a historian and associate professor in the Department of History at Carleton University. Her research focuses histories of migration, displacement, and humanitarianism, with a focus on the politics of race and settler colonialism. She is the author of Elusive Refuge: Chinese Migrants in the Cold War (Harvard, 2016). Her second book, Sanctuary in Pieces: Two Hundred Years of Flight, Fugitivity, and Resistance in a North American City is forthcoming from McGill-Queen’s University Press (fall 2024). Laura is a member of the editorial collective at Active History where she recently curated the More Than a Face exhibit, as part of the Active History on Display initiative.
