Background

The Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) is the only private, grant making institution with a national and international scope whose sole mission is to support solid waste research and education initiatives.

Opportunity

Submissions are being solicited in two main areas:

General Solid Waste Research – in areas outlined in strategic research plan:

1)  Landfills

2)  Transport/Collection

3)  Policy/Economics

4)  Recycling/Waste Minimization

5)  Combustion/Waste-to-energy

6)  Equipment/Safety

7)  Conversion Technologies

8) Life cycle inventory/analysis

9) Education*

Sustainability Research – in the following areas:

A. Waste minimization

B. Recycling

C. Waste conversion to energy, biofuels, chemicals or other useful products. This includes, but is not limited to, the following technologies:

– Waste-to-energy, Pyrolysis/Gasification, Oxidation, Anaerobic digestion, Composting

D. Strategies to promote diversion from landfills (e.g. separating organics, market analysis, optimized material management, logistics, etc.)

Eligibility

No specific criteria.

Funding Available

  • Up to $500k; average grant is for $100k.
  • Multiple year proposals will be considered.
