Opportunity

The JSPS Summer Program, offered by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Washington Office, provides opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from the US, Canada and Europe to receive an orientation on Japanese culture and research systems and to pursue research under the guidance of host researchers at a Japanese university or research institute over a period of two months during the summer, from June 15, 2026 to August 25, 2026.

There are 13 awards available for Canada.

Eligibility

Open to full-time Master’s and PhD students and postdoctoral fellows in all disciplines, or graduates with doctoral degrees received on or after April 2, 2020.

Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

Funding Available

JSPS covers the round-trip airfare and insurance, and provides an allowance of 534,000 yen in total. Host supervisors are eligible for a research support allowance.

Deadlines

Deadline for submission is Wednesday December 3, 2025.

Applicants must submit an application form, along with a letter of recommendation and an acceptance letter from the host institution.
