Serenity Islamic Mental Health Awareness Conference
May 20, 2016 — May 22, 2016
| Cost: | Free |
In light of the rising issue of mental health illness in our community, and in response to our community’s growing need for a discussion on mental health from a culturally sensitive perspective, students and staff partners from Health and Counselling Services at Carleton University have decided to launch the first annual Serenity Islamic Mental Health Awareness Conference to be held from May 20-22, 2016.
It will be a 3-day event that consists of the Opening Night Coffee House, and two consecutive days of workshops and panel discussions with many talented speakers in the field.
Friday, May 20: The Opening Night Coffee House will take place at Ahlul-Bayt Centre, 200 Baribeau St. in Ottawa, starting at 6 p.m. sharp.
A wide selection of refreshments and hot drinks will be served. We will be spiritually lifted with a special performance by the Noor Al-Mostafa group, entranced by the spoken word artists, entertained by some comedy and enlightened by speakers in the mental health field. The evening will end off with the chance to win some self-care raffle prizes.
Saturday, May 21 and Sunday May 22: The weekend workshops and lectures will be held at Carleton University. There are several workshops to choose from, covering a wide range of mental health topics.

PLEASE NOTE: Workshops are free of charge. Tickets are only required for the Opening Night Coffee House on Friday (Adult: $20; Student: $15). Only youth older than 12 years old, please, due to sensitive subject material. Parents are welcome and encouraged to join (there will be workshops catered to their interests as well).
