The International Research Seed Grant (IRSG) is an internal funding program that supports Carleton faculty members in starting new international research collaborations. The Office of the Vice-President (Research and International) awards up to $10,000 in seed funding for projects with one or more international partners.
The purpose of this two-year grant is to initiate new projects and collaborations (rather than support ongoing ones) that will lead to larger international funding proposals and joint publications within two years. Projects are expected to be innovative, globally focused, and lay the foundation for long-term international partnerships.
- Criteria
-
- Clearly constructed motivation for new collaboration
- Strategic alignment with the Strategic Integrated Plan and the International Strategic Plan
- Matching funds and/or in-kind contribution from the international partner(s)
- Feasible budget with notes on where funds might leverage other funding
- Potential to sustain partnership and lead to future funding proposals, shared research activities, and research outputs, such as joint publications within two years
- Eligibility
-
All full-time faculty members of professional rank (Assistant, Associate, and Full) at Carleton are eligible to apply. Applications from Adjunct Research Professors will be considered in exceptional cases.
- Expenses and Duration
-
The award provides up to CAD$10,000. Depending on the number of applications received and availability of funds, projects may be partially funded.
Eligible expenses include travel and accommodations, research and communication costs, and expenses associated with the development of funding proposals in collaboration with the international partner(s).
The IRSG does not cover ongoing operations, capital equipment, administration of personnel costs of existing projects or initiatives, costs for initiatives that have alternative sources of funding, teaching released, and expenses on behalf of other Canadian universities.
The funding will be awarded for a two-year period.
