Carleton International provides access to a variety of research mobility programs for faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows, as well as international visiting student researchers. These programs offer funding for short-term research visits and/or the initiation of collaborative research projects with many different countries. Some programs are ongoing, while others only accept applications at certain times of the year.
The research mobility programs listed below are coordinated by Carleton International. They include both inbound (coming to Canada) and outbound (leaving from Canada) opportunities.

Erasmus+
The Erasmus+ programme provides funding for faculty and staff mobility between institutions in the European Union and their international partners. Mobility can be for research, teaching, or training purposes. Calls for applications get posted if there is an agreement between Carleton and a partner institution in Europe. The terms of the visit, including the amount of funding and duration of stay, is determined based on the specific agreement. For more information, please visit our Erasmus+ webpage.

France Canada Research Fund (FCRF)
FCRF supports new partnerships between research teams in France and participating Canadian universities. Carleton faculty members are eligible to apply if they have not previously worked with the partner institution. Both research teams must include graduate students. Projects are awarded between CAD$8,000 and $15,000 for research and student mobility. This opportunity is open to all areas of research. Canadian universities preselect up to 5 applications for submission to the French Embassy of Canada for final review. Faculty Mobility for Partnership Building Program
The Faculty Mobility Program is for faculty members at Canadian universities who are looking to build a partnership with an institution in Latin America or the Caribbean. GAC provides CAD$7,000 for short (4-5 weeks) research and/or teaching trips. Carleton International submits the application on behalf of the faculty member. Multiple Programs
SICI has several programs for inbound and outbound faculty mobility, including programs for major collaborations, short research or teaching trips, and small development or publication grants. The amount of funding depends on the specific program. SICI opens the calls for applications twice a year. Applicants from India must follow the Visiting Researcher Program requirements and first find a host at Carleton to move forward with their application. Emerging Leaders of the Americas Program (ELAP)
Through ELAP, Carleton professors supervise visiting undergraduate and graduate students from Latin America and the Caribbean on research visits. Once the visiting student finds a host at Carleton, we submit their application to GAC. A bilateral exchange agreement must be in place to allow study visits. The call for applications typically opens in January. The amount of awarded funding varies. Carleton has welcomed ELAP student researchers since 2011, which has facilitated rewarding collaborations and lasting international partnerships for both faculty members and students. Canada-ASEAN SEED Program (Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development)
The SEED program funds undergraduate and graduate students from ASEAN countries (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) to conduct 4-6 month research projects at a Canadian institution. Once the student finds a host faculty member at Carleton, we submit the application to GAC on their behalf. In the application package, the student must demonstrate how their project contributes to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The call for applications typically opens in January. Study in Canada Scholarships (SICS)
The SICS program funds short-term research visits for undergraduate and graduate students from the following eligible countries: Algeria, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Kenya, Libya, Morocco, Nepal, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Taiwan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, and Ukraine. Once the student finds a host faculty member at Carleton, we submit the application to GAC on their behalf. The call for applications typically opens in January. The amount of awarded funding varies. Globalink Research Award (GRA) Program
The Mitacs GRA is a highly popular program that provides CAD$6,000 in funding to senior undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, for short-term research trips abroad. Carleton has a certain number of awards available per year for either incoming or outgoing students to travel to or from select Mitacs partner institutions and/or countries. Mitacs-Calareo Globalink Research Award (GRA) Program
The Mitacs-Calareo program provides CAD$6,000 in funding for both incoming and outgoing undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, between Carleton and select Latin American partner countries (Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico). Incoming students are nominated by Carleton supervisors, whereas Carleton students submit a preliminary application. Those selected must complete a full Mitacs application for approval by the funder. Globalink Research Internship (GRI) Program
The flagship GRI program invites undergraduate students from international institutions to work on research projects by faculty members at Carleton for a period of 4 months between May and August. Mitacs sends out a call for projects from Canadian professors in April. Once projects are selected, undergraduate students from Mitacs partner institutions apply between August and September for the summer internships. The amount of awarded funding varies. Carleton has participated in this program since 2018 with great success, with many faculty members continuing to host international student researchers year after year. RISE-Globalink Research Internship Program (Research Internships in Science and Engineering)
The RISE program offers Carleton undergraduate students the opportunity to conduct research at an institution in Germany over a summer term. The German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD) matches students with institutions based on their research interests. The program is open to students in science and engineering fields only. Mitacs provides CAD$6,000 in funding to support travel costs and living expenses. The call for applications typically opens in November. Mitacs-JSPS Summer Program (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science)
In partnership with JSPS, Mitacs offers CAD$6,000 in funding for Carleton graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to conduct a research visit in Japan during the summer.
