Overview
Carleton University participates in the following Global Affairs Canada scholarship programs: the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) and the Study in Canada Scholarships (SICS). These programs support short‑term academic exchanges for international students conducting research placements at Carleton through partner institutions.
Who can apply?
- ELAP: Undergraduate and graduate students from eligible institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- SICS: Undergraduate and graduate students from eligible countries identified by Global Affairs Canada.
Applicants must be registered at their home institution at the time of application and remain enrolled for the full duration of their exchange.
For undergraduate students, an active institutional agreement between Carleton and the home institution is required. Informal faculty collaborations or active research partnerships are also accepted. New agreements will not be created solely for the purpose of an application.
For graduate students, no institutional agreement is required.
Funding Includes
Scholarship funding may include contributions toward:
- Living expenses
- Travel costs
- Health insurance
Specific funding amounts are determined by Global Affairs Canada.
Duration
Research visits typically last 4–6 months (one academic term), depending on the nature of the exchange and program guidelines.
Application Process & Timeline
Carleton International manages the internal review and submission of applications for research visits. Students submit their complete application package directly to Carleton through the designated online form.
- Global Affairs Canada releases calls for applications annually.
- Students must prepare all required documents and submit them directly to Carleton International using the online application form.
- Incomplete or partial submissions will not be accepted.
- Carleton reviews submissions, confirms supervisor support, and prepares eligible nominations for Global Affairs Canada.
