Carleton International invites applications for research visits under the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) and Study in Canada Scholarships (SICS) programs. The information below outlines the internal requirements and procedures for applying to Carleton for research visits only. For information on country eligibility, scholarship values, and durations of visits, please visit the program websites at the links above.

Eligibility

Students must be citizens of an eligible country. See the program websites for lists of eligible countries and additional eligibility criteria:

Applicants must be registered at their home institution (in an eligible country) at the time of applying and for the duration of their scholarship.

For undergraduate students, there must be a current institutional agreement between Carleton University and the home institution. New agreements will not be signed for this purpose. Informal agreements between faculty members or active research collaborations will be accepted. No agreement is required for graduate students to apply.

Students must contact and secure a host supervisor at Carleton prior to applying.

Deadline for applications

The deadline for applications is March 16, 2026. All documents must be submitted by this date. Submissions with missing or incomplete documents will not be considered.

How to apply

Complete the online form by clicking the “Apply Here” button below and attach all the supporting documents, then submit. You will receive a confirmation of submission.

Partial submissions or multiple submissions with different documents will not be accepted.

Selection Criteria

Students will be selected for scholarships based on the following criteria:

  • Strength and detail of research plan/project
  • Alignment of student’s research interests with host supervisor’s expertise and research program
  • Institutional or faculty-level partnership/collaboration with the home institution
  • Depth of student’s research experience
  • Equitable gender participation
  • Distribution across countries

Results

All applicants will be contacted regarding the results of the competition once Carleton International receives approval and confirmation of the selected scholarship recipients by the funder.
