Pulse & Praxis Journal: Operations Coordinator – Volunteer
Position Title: Journal Operations Coordinator
Location: National Centre for Critical Infrastructure Protection, Security and Resilience (NC-CIPSeR), Carleton University, Ottawa, ON (Remote opportunities available)
Position Type: Volunteer/Contractual
Duration: 12 months with the possibility of extension
About the Role
Pulse & Praxis: The Journal for Critical Infrastructure Protection, Security and Resilience is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed publication dedicated to advancing the protection, security, and resilience of critical infrastructure across Canada and globally. It is the official journal of NC-CIPSeR, hosted on Carleton University’s Open Journal Systems platform. The Journal Operations Coordinator will play a key role in keeping the journal running smoothly — ensuring submissions, reviews, and publications flow through the system efficiently. This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys organization, problem-solving, and being at the centre of a growing initiative. Note: This is currently a volunteer position. However, as the journal secures grants and funding opportunities, there may be potential to provide modest stipends to support these roles in the future.
Why It Matters
In today’s world, critical infrastructure faces mounting and interdependent pressures – from cyber intrusions and climate-driven disasters to geopolitical uncertainty and supply chain disruptions. Pulse & Praxis was created to ensure that research, policy, and practice are not operating in silos. By publishing peer-reviewed, open-access scholarship and transforming it into accessible knowledge, the journal strengthens Canada’s ability to anticipate risks, inform evidence-based decisions, and advance resilience.
This work matters because it bridges theory and practice, connects diverse sectors, and ensures that insights on infrastructure protection, national security, and emergency preparedness are available to the people and organizations who need them most.
