Susan Yamamoto

In a series of studies recently published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Susan Yamamoto and Professor Maeder present a measure that captures the way people think about punishment (the Punishment Orientation Questionnaire). For example, is it better to let ten guilty people go unpunished than for one innocent person to suffer? This research helps us to better understand punitive decisions ranging from everyday conflict to imposing the death penalty.
