Call for applications: Workshop participants interested in feedback on a draft workplace-inclusion working paper

The Centre for Research on Inclusion at Work (CRIW) is inviting applications from researchers at any stage of their careers for participation in a virtual writing exchange workshop for research on equity, diversity and inclusion in organizations.

In the CRIW Writing Exchange Workshop, participants exchange their draft working papers and receive feedback from experienced scholars, peers and researchers affiliated with CRIW. The aim of the workshop is to help participants prepare their working papers for a journal submission.

Who should apply: We are inviting applications from graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and researchers at any stage of their careers conducting research on equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Participants need not be from Carleton University.

Disciplines: We encourage participants from a variety of disciplines, including business studies, sociology, social work, psychology, anthropology, education, gender studies and others, which explore equity and inclusion in a variety of organizational contexts. Both empirical and analytical contributions are welcome.

Research topics: Of particular interest are papers exploring barriers to employment and organizational inclusion for such populations as Black, Indigenous and people of colour (BIPOC), immigrants, women, individuals with disabilities, Two Spirit, trans man, trans woman, nonbinary, agender, gender variant, gender fluid, intersex, or asexual persons (2SLGBTQIA+), and youth.

Format of the workshop: The CRIW Writing Exchange Workshop is divided in sessions of four (4) participants. The sessions are organized by research topic. At least one participant in each session will be an experienced scholar. Each participant reads the working papers of the other participants in their session and provides feedback.

Time commitment: Participants should be prepared to read three (3) working papers ahead of time and commit four (4) hours to attend the writing exchange workshop and provide written and oral feedback to their peers.

Application submission deadline: March 4, 2022

Participation in the workshop is free, but spots are limited and you are required to register to participate. To be considered for participation, you are asked to submit a 200-word abstract of your draft working paper and a 100-word statement of intent.

The deadline for abstract and statement of intent submission is March 4, 2022. The submission should be sent to criw@carleton.ca with the subject line “CRIW Writing Exchange Workshop.” Statements of intent and abstracts will be evaluated on their fit with the goals of the workshop and invitations to participate will be sent by March 11, 2022.

Who can participate? Graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and researchers at any stage of their careers, conducting research on equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Participants need not be from Carleton University.

How can I participate? To be considered for participation you are asked to submit a 200-word abstract of your research on workplace inclusion to CRIW and a 100-word statement of intent. Once accepted you are expected to submit your draft working paper (maximum 5,000 words) three weeks prior to the workshop.

Are specific subjects prioritized? All subject exploring equity, diversity and inclusion in organizations are welcome. Of particular interest are working papers exploring barriers to employment and organizational inclusion for such populations as Black, Indigenous and people of colour (BIPOC), immigrants, women, individuals with disabilities, LGBTQ2+ and youth.
