Housing Affordability Symposium: Event Round-Up
On March 24, 2026, the Centre for Studies on Poverty and Social Citizenship hosted the Housing Affordability Symposium at Carleton University. Researchers, policymakers, housing advocates, service providers, students, and community members came together to discuss housing insecurity and homelessness in Ottawa and across Canada.
Speakers and participants examined rising housing costs, the loss of affordable rental housing, and growing pressure on shelters. They also discussed ways forward, including more non-market housing, stronger income supports, earlier help for people at risk of homelessness, and a greater role for people with lived experience in shaping policy.
