Josh is our new undergraduate research associate who joined in Winter 2024. The primary focus of his project is the deployment of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) intended for gathering measurements of methane emissions. He will work to enhance the capabilities of the UAV by integrating a wind sensor using a custom-made mount. This process involves designing, machining, and implementing the mounting system and programming the UAV to effectively transmit a real-time data feed, providing insights into the velocity field of the wind which will be combined with the measurements of methane content to provide an overall mass flux. By combining cutting-edge technology with a custom-designed setup, the project will result in creating an efficient tool for accurately measuring and monitoring methane emissions, contributing to more quantifiable measurements for facilitating informed decision-making in emissions management and mitigation.
