To Our Muslim Community:
We grieve with you, with your loved ones, and with the greater Muslim-Canadian community. We are horrified and heartbroken by the hate-motivated attack carried out in London, Ontario, this past Sunday. This attack is opposed to everything we stand for in our department and at Carleton University.
Though nothing we can say will make things better, we want you to know that we stand with you in sadness and solidarity. This will not separate us from each other. This senseless tragedy has impacted the Muslim community at large and those who are part of it through friendship, kinship, and partnership. We know that this hate-motivated attack undermines the sense of safety for all our Muslim communities and we resolve to stand against Islamophobia in all of its forms.
As you have probably heard already, flags on campus will be at half-mast in memory and honour of those who lost their lives this past Sunday.
