What is it?

A deactivated Fund is a fund which can no longer be used as a funding source for charges or payments. A Fund can be deactivated for the following reasons:

  1. The termination date of the research award or agreement has passed.  If there is a residual balance in the Fund once it has been terminated, the balance will transferred to another active Fund or returned to the original funding source, such as a research agency or operating department.
  2. Regulatory compliances have not been met.  If the termination date of the Fund has not yet passed, the Fund will be reactivated once Research Financial Services is notified that regulatory compliance requirements have been met.

Why is it important?

When a Fund has been deactivated financial transactions cannot be posted to it.  If you are attempting to charge an expense claim or there is an individual being paid by payroll on the fund, delays in payment may occur while Research Financial Services determines the appropriate action to take with the request.  Deactivated Funds cannot be used in any electronic system.
