Visiting Appointments

Visiting Appointees contribute to the Carleton community in a variety of ways including

  • adding to the intellectual capital of the university,
  • collaboration partnerships with other world renowned institutions, and
  • enhancing our international profile.

Such appointments also provide significant and exciting opportunities allowing students to experience new perspectives and enhancing their learning.

Visiting Researcher

A Visiting Researcher is an established faculty member from another institution formally invited to the University to collaborate on a research project. If the individual is not a Canadian resident, a formal initiation must be offered through Carleton International. As part of the arrangement, the visiting researcher may be offered a monthly stipend to cover the cost of living in addition to any related travel and accommodation support. If the visiting researcher is receiving a stipend from a Tri-Agency grant, the amount is restricted by the Agency guidelines.

Visiting Professor

A professor who is normally on temporary leave from his/her permanent position at a university and who is invited to teach a course at Carleton University in an area of established expertise.  He/she may choose to engage in other projects at Carlton during the term of his/her position at Carleton.

Visiting Scholar

An instructor who is normally on temporary leave from his/her permanent position at another institution and who is invited to teach a course at Carleton University in an area of established expertise.  He/she may choose to engage in other projects at Carlton during the term of his/her position at Carleton.
