What is it?
A Warranty is a promise made by a seller to a buyer that is legally enforceable. The promise may be expressed or implied and is legally binding. Warranties typically have a set term, and included and excluded conditions.
Why is it important?
Warranties provide “peace of mind” for a window of time should something happen to the good (or work). Warranties are worth seriously considering and factoring into the total cost of ownership of an item or service that you expect to last for a defined length of time. It is the purchasing department’s responsibility to:
- understand the warranty terms and conditions prior to purchase, and
- manage their warranties and claims with the vendor.
