Priya Gupta is Associate Professor of Law at McGill University, where she teaches and writes in the areas of property law, race, and capitalism. Her research examines how property regimes perpetuate racial and other forms of inequality. Her work has focused on housing precarity and the question of “who can live where” in a number of jurisdictions, including the United States, Canada, India, and the United Kingdom. Her forthcoming monograph (Financializing the City; MIT Press, 2025) examines how cities play a crucial role in governing financial capitalism through their regulation of urban spaces, land, and housing. She currently, with Financialization Research Lab Director Kevin Skerrett, holds a SSHRC Insight Development Grant for the “World’s Landlords” project.
