Writing in Plain Style

Description:

Using plain language in communications is necessary in many occupations, especially in those that involve disseminating information to the public. When writing in plain style, writers are expected to produce text whose (1) wording, (2) structure, and (3) design are clear and accessible to all readers. This workshop introduces participants to these three aspects, with a specific focus on principles writers use to ensure their text is in line with the requirements of plain style.

• Identify instances when writing in plain style is necessary
• Review the key aspects of text writers must consider when writing in plain style
• Identify key principles writers follow to ensure their text is written in plain style
• Edit sentences to ensure they are clear and accessible
