Your Grad School Exit Plan

Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Your Grad School Exit Plan is designed primarily for PhD students, with Master’s students also welcome. In this webinar we’ll take an honest look at the realities facing new PhD graduates, including the constrained academic job market, the growing importance of non-academic career pathways, and the financial pressures that often shape job-search decisions. Avoiding abstractions, we’ll discuss the structural challenges graduates encounter and the timelines, trade-offs, and uncertainties involved in different exit paths from graduate school.
This webinar is built around guided group discussion. Participants will be invited to reflect on their own goals, concerns, and constraints, and to learn from the experiences and perspectives of their peers. By the end of the session, attendees will have a clearer understanding of what planning an exit from graduate school actually entails, along with concrete considerations they can use to think more strategically about their next steps.

All graduate students and postdocs are welcome. If you are a TA, this session counts toward voluntary paid training hours, provided that you are working as a TA in the term when the training takes place.
