Current project: Innovative FRP piles in soft soils
Juan has completed his MASc degree in geotechnical engineering focusing on the design and testing of deep or pile foundations. Currently he is working as a geotechnical engineer in AATech Scientific Inc., a foundation engineering frim in Ottawa.
Juan’s research focus is on the use of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites such as carbon and glass fiber as a novel material replacing or reinforcing traditional piling systems such as steel and concrete. The outcome of this research will provide baseline information regarding the performance with respect to the geotechnical behaviour of these type of piles in soft clays encountered along the ottawa river valley. His goal is to apply his technical skills and experience to foundation design and geotechnical works throughout Canada in a consulting environment.
